At the start of the video, Cambot seems really drunk.
8/10 No Cambot.
That was pretty horrible. I'm glad they improved by leaps and bounds.
Wish I had Hi fi speakers. Have a bluetooth speaker only while listening to this. Cannot quite hear the riffs due to the auditorium echo/acoustics. They must be good, people are laughing at them. Glad this episode was found after being lost for so many years
Is that mary Jo pehl on the far right and "TV's Frank" in the middle?
I haven't seen that until just now! How utterly charming. So glad that the 'bots evolved to their later states. It's awfully clever, the stuff that Joel was doing at that time, but pretty offbeat.
I love floppy haired Joel.
The episode that started it all!
It is my MST3K Birthday/Turkey Day tradition to watch this. And The Crawling Eye. And Mitchell. And whatever other episode I see fit.
I would have watched this every week even in this format.
The bit from a convention at the beginning of this is interesting. What's cool about seeing the pilot episode of TV shows is seeing how the show has changed over time. The show started out very different looking, but the premise stayed the same throughout the seasons. Originally, they had almost no budget and were filming the show in one of the few rooms of a public access channel TV studio in Minnesota. That they were able to keep this intentionally cheesy, Middle American pop culture infused riffing style even after they hit the big time. Even The Movie is recognizable as the show even if it is inexplicably missing all of Dr. Forrester's assistants. Not many shows survived the transition from idea to actual show on mainstream TV with as few changes as MST3K did.
Yeah, why no riffs lol
I agree that they should have riffed Green Slime in then series. Weird Italian-Japanese- American vibes.
Been years since I last saw this. Wow. If they had been deliberately spoofing the concept, I would say "Brilliant!" Since we know that was not the case, I'm bordering on speechless. Crow elicited the biggest laugh, at the end. I agree with Scott A. Taylor, who wonders why they never riffed this one properly. It's not really Rifftrax material, but I would love to see the CT crew take this one on.
From humble beginnings to... well, humble middles and humble endings too I guess.
Who knew that the original Mystery Science Theater was inside a very small office safe?
Oh man! Omega Man callback! A terrible but at the same time fantastic movie. (You may know it as I Am Legend; was also the basis for one of the better Treehouse of Horror segments from the Simpsons)
Gypsy scares me in this...
Why the hell did they never do this film in the series .. this was absolute gold (meaning crap!), .. man if only they'd riffed this one!
Am I the only one slighty creeped by Beeper and the complete lack of riffs and Cambot?
Riffs you quote here will appear randomly in the above.
I gotta go to the bathroom.
That's no asteroid, that's a battle station!
Speaking of #2 was the best riff.
I'm not touching you!
Speaking of the number 2 position!
uh... none lol
