Did people not know what uranium was in the atomic age? That's what U-238 is, although I think it might be a more unstable, and therefore radioactive, isotope. I don't get why they don't just say uranium unless they're just trying to sound sophisticated.

One of the real-life applications of radar was measuring the distance to the moon at various points in its orbit.

@55 minutes. Two thieves casually discuss stealing bomb-grade uranium (probably punishable by hanging) with Days of our Lives soap opera music plays in background. So soothing.

wow, this movie plays like a best-of supercut, because I can't figure out what the heck is going on. cars drive around, then they cut to inside talking scenes, and it's the same driving and talking scenes over and over.

The guy in the short being distracted by his girlfriend's ass is a total dick. Not only does he not look before pulling out into the road because he's an inconsiderate prick, but a gentleman waits long enough to be sure that the lady he's dropping off isn't locked out, attacked by a psycho lying in wait, or whatever.

Is it just me or is the pushy cop from the short like, CRAZY handsome. Reminds me of Bryan Brown (Thornbirds, FX, Cocktail). Also, it tickles me how much the one cop has a crush on Blackie's waitress girlfriend.

Radar operators of the time must have been face palming themselves into a coma at the sheer dumb-assedness of the science (or lack thereof) in this film!

And yup, this film is another great example of 'DEEP HURTING!' Were it not for the riffing my ass would feel distinctly raw and sore if I had to watch this without it. And I definitely nominate this film for a Crummie™.

Seems the premise of this movie is that no one thought that it might be a good idea to, gee, I dunno, maybe have some sort of police escort or maybe even an armored car to carry the Uranium-238? I guess they thought RADAR should have been sufficient.

As atrocious as the short is, I have to admit there is some good, common sense info that the pushy cop shares. Heck, the goofballs waving before hitting the train could just as easily be goofballs texting before getting hit by a train.

I can't believe I haven't mentioned this yet.

The short was filmed in IDAHO! My home state! Now, it wasn't filmed in the best part of the state, but was instead filmed near Meridian, over by Boise, but I feel a wonderful thrill every time I see that ISP patch. When I was living in Toronto, I would just start smiling. No, it doesn't take much. =D

And in case you're wondering, there are still (even 50 years later) a number of railroad crossing with no warning lights, some even without signs.

I don't know how it happened, after such a dismal first impression, but Radar Secret Service has finally won me over! It came next in my rotation, I gazed upon it in dread, now I see that it's just the sort of lump of pompous propaganda that's perfect for MST3K, with some of the slickest riffs of the series! I love Big Brother!

You know, for all the intricacies of the bad guys' plans, the plot can be - spoiler warning - summed up by: the bad guys didn't think radar could find them, but radar did find them. Also, radar provides a moving picture of cars on the road.

And for heaven's sake, Michael saying Mickey just left a little while ago, while glancing at Mickey's corpse!

40% of traffic accidents involved a vehicle pulled over to the side of the road, the short says. I actually found myself quoting this statistic to someone recently. How silly to assume that a statistic from 1959 would be the same today! I'm guessing that the number isn't nearly that high now, but I don't know for sure.

For some reason, this is one of my favorite episodes. Yes, it's dull and gray, but the riffing is so good that I don't even care!

The short was also filmed in my home state, and so it makes me a trifle nostalgic, as well.

I've seen both episodes a zillion times but it just hit me that Mickey Moran in this movie is the same actor (Tom Neal) that plays Clifford Scott in The Brute Man. Clifford is the guy that screws Rondo Hatton's character Hal over while they're in college, which leads to Hal burning his own face with acid. I only realized it because I was dozing and I suddenly realized his voice sounded really familiar. So I checked IMDB and there ya go! Turns out Tom Neal had an interesting but rocky real life as well.
