One of the rare occasions where the clip before the movie (invention exchange) is just as cheesy as the movie itself.

Little trivia - the young miner that Gumbi Girl is sitting with when she asks if they know her brother is Robert Tayman, who plays a sexy vampire in one of Hammer's best but little known films, Vampire Circus. Adrienne Corri (the alligator hat woman) is also in the film, and Robin Sachs (who played Gile's nemesis Ethan Rayne on Buffy The Vampire Slayer) is one of the twin vampires. In addition, Sachs' twin in the movie is played by Lala Ward who is the wife of English biologist Richard Dawkins.

I don't know. I kinda like the music in this film. I even kinda like this film lol. It's a Hammer film with all the Hammer faves - Michael Ripper, Sam Kydd, Adrienne Corri, Robert Tayman. What's not to like?

I can't believe that THIS is one of the handful of sci-fi movies that gets the "no sound in space" thing right.

Like Maynard Ferguson (name-dropped in the 10:22 riff), he was a jazz trumpeter and composer. Known for Third Stream and orchestral jazz, as well as scores for The French Connection and The Seven-Ups. His other work is worth a listen: Electric Bath and Tears Of Joy perhaps being the best-remembered now.

This has to be my favorite of the earlier episodes. At the end of the opening scene when the music starts after the main character enters the capsule; how can the guys refrain from breaking into "Spill the Wine"?

I think this is a very interesting film. I kind of enjoy it. I like the late 60's moon race-y cultural undertones. The music is kinda cool, and they at least tried with some space effects. Joel and the bots are also on and cranking out the riffs with this one.

Film is too watchable.

Being a lover of all terrible films, you can tell this one was picked because it was in color, but it also has some semblance of a plot. Although it was surely better than "Gone With The Wind" the film is watchable, and it takes away a little from the show I think. However, it isn't Stinkburger status, like The Purge.
There certainly are elements of the film that are dated and, admittedly funny, however for MST3k Purists like myself, this movie was a good pick for mainstream audiences, but not true blue MSTies, who bath in the sun of the film that was The Screaming Skull.

So the problem with asteroid mining is that it's more expensive to set up a long-distance operation than you'd make in gross income. Except that he's found a giant chunk of sapphire, which you'd think would be profitable, even one shipload at a time. But his solution is to crash it into the Moon, which would likely shatter it. (And which is also dangerous and illegal.) Why not put it in orbit?

Also, if firing a gun pretty much anywhere on the Moon or any ship to or from the Moon is liable to cause a lethal hull breach (and I'll definitely believe it is) why would anyone be allowed to have one? Especially someone too stupid and uninformed to know that?

I can't believe the riffers let a few choice opportunities slip by. When the lady sheriff says "looks like he's carrying quite a load"...nothing! Maybe they had to consider much of their audience was kids, but I was riffing the hell outta that one in my head.

I liked it. I'd watch it unriffed. If I was going to complain I'd say Hubbard was a bit too cartoonish, and when the miners started piling in I started to worry that Benny Hill would be among them .... maybe it just got a little too manic at times. But that's the 70s for you.

Maybe that's why the protagonist keeps being accused of being boring: the contrast between his personality and what's going on around him. Catch him in his natural habitat and he'd be a pretty okay bloke to have around.

I'm not even going to grumble about the artificial gravity, but that's because I can top it with their utter reliance on satellites for communication; there are such things as "cables", and even the crew in Project Moonbase could give them some suggestions.

But it's still a fun film.

I really like this episode. One of the most watchable movies they ever mocked. The groovilicious first half is way better than the shoot 'em up snore fest of the last half, though.

Anyway, the home team always bring their A game to the 70s stuff. Gee, it's almost as though they were kids around that time, and they're all nostalgey and stuff...

About that hero. I liked him in The Andromeda Strain, and he's okay here but he just isn't Gary Cooper material.
