Those legs at 22:40 are a bit too manly and well-muscled to be Joel's. I'm guessing they made Mike dangle his sexy gams for the camera like some sordid audition in the 50s. Poor, poor Mike...

I love how all the pop stars they shove out of the lighthouse in their thought experiment are just wedding cake figurines.

Also, Kenny Rogers and Kenny Loggins, but not Kenny G? What's not wrong with Kenny G?

The actor who plays the blackmailer is Joe Turkel. Turkel was in several Kubrick movies, and played Eldon Tyrell in Blade Runner.

He's an awesome actor. I'm surprised they didn't recognize him.

Before I get cranky, I want to point out that the closing bit is one of my fondest memories of MST, and the "connurping for moisture" line has stuck with me for decades now. I heart you, Joel.
I don't know. Some people (some people right here on this comment thread, for instance) claim this is a pretty good movie, but I find it pretty dumb. I'll admit the manipulations of the ghost and the haplessness of the "hero" make the plot a bit more engrossing than the usual monster maul, but it is all still very contrived. As the guys point out, what's so awful about a jazz musician with a love life?

Also, and this is perhaps my real problem: how did these three females (Vi, Meg and Sandy) fall for this particular jazz musician? He evinces nothing particularly admirable or lovable throughout the flick. Granted he's under pressure by the time we meet him, and perhaps not at his best. He is also not even remotely by any standards--even honky ones--the greatest jazz pianist on the island, let alone the world.

Anyhoo. I vote for bad movie.

Just noticed when the blind lady is sitting down at the outdoor restaurant does the cook try to hand her a menu? I thought she has lived on the island for a while.

I literally did a spit take when Frank opened his coat and a snake fell out! As for the movie, I don't see what is so damn likable about this guy Tom? Every woman in the film loves him but he seems rather average and incompetent, and not such a great musician either.

I heard there's a scene that was later cut where Vi says, "JON Stewart KILLS me!" Apparently, the Gordons were big Daily Show fans.

I actually find this movie pretty cool. One of the few I would enjoy even without the riffs. The John Forsythe ones are like that, generally.

I think this movie ranks number three on my MST3K "Actually Not That Bad" list; it's got a few weaknesses, and it's a bit dull, but for the most part you can tell that they're laboring to mock it.

So many of the other crappy old movies MST3K has done are so misogynistic that when it gets me down, I come back and watch this one. Because the selfish jerk who just uses women is *punished* instead of being Our Hero.

Okay, this features the least convincing jazz ever. Lawrence Welk and Kate Smith had more swing than Tom Stewart. :/

On the other hand, the page-flipping scene at the aborted wedding is kind of neat. Sad to realize that with a decent score, competent leads and a director who gave a damn, this could have been a pretty good story. (I feel the same away about *Alien From LA*.)
