I recognized a name in the credits, and decided to look it up on IMDB. Sure enough, that's THE Toni Basil in this film--Toni "Oh Mickey you're so fine" Basil...as a character named "Red". I had no clue she was that old! :)

Joe Turkel must have been a favorite of Bert I. Gordon; here he plays the sheriff, and in Tormented he was the blackmailer. And yet he also was a favorite of Stanley Kubrick, appearing in the Shining, the Killing and Paths of Glory. He was also Dr. Eldon Tyrell in Blade Runner. What an odd career.

That girl has the same fashion sense as you, Trixie Tang.
Trixie: "Her skirt could be shorter, and I was inspired by past characters I think. I do look allot like that secretary from Dr. No."
But you do look vary 60's to 80's.
Trixie: "I do like older style cloths. Girls today have too much glitter like a stripper and don't wear enough cloths. Some like to show off their goods, but we can still show of and be warm enough when we need to."
Yet you wear a fairly short skirt.
Trixie: "Pants get too toasty for me."

Ever notice the one brunette giant who does absolutely nothing but hang out behind the other giants? I wonder what the story was with that.

This movie has some of the biggest plot holes in all of MST3K; what's the deal with "Genius" biking out to the park before he observed the effects of his concoction? How are the giants making sure nobody escaped the town if all they do is hang out in the theater? How does "Untie our leader or I'll leave this girl on the roof of this building, such that getting her down will be a mild inconvenience" serve as an effective form of extortion?

Anybody else notice that Tommy Kirk is a complete dick? He could have just told Beau's airhead girlfriend: "No. I'm NOT going to show you where the secret formula is hidden, strange blonde woman" Instead, he makes out with her for like 5 minutes before finally blowing her off...With his girlfriend no more than maybe 20 feet away!

You suck, Tommy Kirk :(

Pete (the other blonde in the group of hoodlums besides Fred) is played by Tim Rooney, Mickey's son. Harry (the more intelligible of the 2 dark-haired guys in the group) is played by Kevin O'Neal, Ryan's brother.

I have read that Frank Zappa was a fan of the show and had expressed interest in collaborating with the MST3K group. I thought I remembered one of the group saying that they had talked to Frank Zappa on the phone about the show. I wonder if they asked if he had a movie in mind that they should riff on and this was the one he recommended. It came out right around the time Zappa was getting big and this movie is weird in a Zappa kind of way (giants ducks dancing in a nightclub).

You know, this is actually better-plotted than the original.

No, seriously. I tried to read 'Food of the Gods' but it depends on scientists being smart enough to create the Food on purpose, and stupid enough to leave it in the hands of a sloppy old couple who get it everywhere and make giant chickens and stuff by accident. Having no one over the age of eighteen or so know about it makes the complete lack of scientific discipline make sense.

Average proscenium is 30'. Sitting on the stage, the blonde is.. approximately 2 feet shy of the top of the proscenium, so her torso 28 feet. In general, the center of the over all height of the human is the hip, So she is 56 feet tall. She is 10X her original height. Bo is 5'10", so he will be just over 58 feet tall. His shoulders are approximately 15" (joint to joint). In giant size, that would be over 12 feet, Depth of chest... we'll say 6 inches. Giant size 5'. Lying on his side (no way in hell he can do it standing), how the hell would he get through a doorway (7'X2')... or even a double doorway (7'X4')? A lot of theaters have a bay off to the side for storing material brought in by visiting performers. The theater at the university I attended had a room like that with an (appx) 30'X15' doorway. Unfortunately, the doorway that one uses to move material from that storage room to the actual stave is like 7'X7' so there is no way in hell for these guys to get to that stage.

Oh, and an aside, if he wears size 9 shoes, his feet would be just over 7 feet long... not the, what, 5'6"? that you see when they are trying to tie him up.

I love how in all the Burt I. movies there is no consistent size for the people or monsters. One scene they're taller than a three story building, the next they're eating chicken legs the size of their pinky finger. They stand above the trees and theater, yet there is a magazine that fits in their palm. When they grow, their clothes rip off, yet when they shrink the clothing shrinks with them.

Also, why are they afraid of the guns? At the largest size they were shown at, a gunshot would be little more than a mosquito bite and they could just squish the person shooting them. I spent the whole movie expecting a military reaction like in Beginning of the End. Instead I get kids having to walk home and horrible midget puns.
