I saw a note somewhere that Kiel is in this movie, so I payed attention to the credits and, sure enough, he is. Then I payed attention to the movie, looking for him.... and looking for him... and... took me a while to figure out that he was the dog creature in the prison cell. So it is official that he is in THREE episodes of MST3K.

"Are you ready to hear the charges against you?"
"No. I demand to know what I'm being charged with!"
"We'll get to that later. First, there are many things that must be explained. But now is not the time for explanations. We must read the charges against you."
"I refuse! I haven't done anything wrong!"
"I find you guilty. You're free to go."

Apparently no longer content to control only gravity, Rayton is launching a crowdsourcing effort to break into solar power. Perhaps we dismissed the potential checks and balances provided by the Solarites too quickly.

Well, much enthusiasm for this one in the discussion, but I have to demur. I found this stinkburger unwatchable.

(46:28) Per IMDB: Coleen Gray (Liara) was actually in a couple of good films, not just two of our beloved turkeys. She seems to have retired from acting by 1986, but had a long life. She passed on in 2015 at the age of 92, hopefully without ever resorting to pineal power drinks. :D

"It's quiet and lonely out here."
Funnily, that was the last thing the cockpit voice recorder picked up, apart from a series of thumping noises.

It's great when the dark-haired girl "goes to bed early" during an onslaught of enemies trying to destroy their world. Yes, your existence hanging in the balance is so boooooring.

At those asteroid scenes, does anyone else get hungry for fried chicken? Almost want QFC after watching this. With all we know it, their prop guy could have thought of how to make an asteroid and had a bucket of fried chicken at his idea desk that day and thought, "I don't want to make an asteroid...hmmm...I'll just use this uneaten fried chicken breast or wing leftover from lunch."

We must keep the technology that can save the Solarites home planet from a fiery doom away from them, lest the Earth one day might be invaded by an army of three inch dog-faced men!

For a second there, I thought I got another repeated actor... and I did, but was wrong about the show. Dolores Faith (Zetha, the verbally impaired brunette) at one angle mad me think "HEY... was she the facially scarred model chosen to become the donor body in The Brain that Wouldn't Die? But, alas, she wasn't. She did, however, have a part in The Human Duplicators (Which is also one of the multiple Richard Kiel movies). So there is a fairly serious connection between Phantom Planet and Human Duplicators.

I was watching an episode of 'The Rifleman' recently (episode 164 : 'Requiem at Misson Springs') and was pleasantly surprised to see Dean Fredericks (Frank Chapman in this movie) as the lead bad guy. He ended up getting shot by Lucas McCain (big surprise) but his ... distinctive countenance was unmistakable !

How about those 'angry mob torch flames' in the foreground of the Castle Forrester shot? Love the MST3k shoestring creativity. I hadn't noticed that Nanite singing 'La la la' in the opening tune or the satillite dish on top of the castle before. Always something new.

Is it just me, or does "Combat Staff Duel" seem like a game kids would play in the living room on a rainy day? It looks almost as much fun as "The Floor Is Lava," and you only need a folding chair and a couple of towels to play.

The lilliputian nature of these Phantom Planet people is such a stupid and awkward plot point, and yet for all the attention they devote to the idea it honestly has a negligible impact on the movie.

I betcha the astronaut with the Beverly Crusher hips threw his annoyingly wistful shipmate out into space in a fit of rage. Then, wracked by guilt and remorse, he crashed onto a random, barren asteroid and hallucinated his experience on Rheton. Unable to admit to himself that he's a murderer, his rescuers pick up a stranded madman, babbling about his fantasy world of tiny people under assault by sundogs.
