I hope next season does 'The People that Time Forgot' the sequel to 'The land that time forgot'. The Doug McClure movies (This and 'At the Earths Core') were my favorite ones of the reboot and became instant classics for me, there actually fun movies, easy to riff and the monster costumes are so cheesy but awesome at the same time. Doug McClure is just awesome and I almost want to watch the sequel just to find out what happens to them stuck there after the sub blows up but I would love to watch an MST3K version. All three movies are based on books by Edgar Rice Burroughs so they've done 2/3 of the Doug McClure scifi movies that were made. Anyone else want this too?

Did it... I survived The Gauntlet. Any other takers finish it too? Thoughts? I feel like they ironed out a lot of the rough stuff from the previous season. Riffs felt better paced. Plus a really cool cameo! Hopefully, more in the pipeline?

My disdain for the latter and, certainly, the new seasons is no secret. It's like the 'extended pun' of the invention exchange ad infinitum, ad nauseum. So, here's the set-up. Joel's great-grandchild, Joel IV, is about to premier Season 87. Given the current MST3k trend, possible technological advancements, the weather on Mars or whatever...what would the new season look like? Include characters, films, formats or anything else considered apropos. My analyst said I should face my worst nightmares.

I just finished watching The Magic Sword where Frank is drastically affected by the biohazard...stuff and is a skeleton at the end. It just occurred to me that Dr. F. has got to be a genius when you consider all the things he does to Frank and the very next episode, Frank is back to normal again, no harm done. I'm amazed!

So in Lords of the Deep, that one guy looks like Ryan Stiles SO MUCH. It's uncanny. So much that I made some research to see if Stephen Davies was related to Ryan haha....

MST3K was a big part of my childhood. My dad showed it to me when i was like 6 or 7 years old back in the mid 90s, and some of my best childhood memories were of me and my dad watching this show together and laughing. I didnt really like season 11 when it first came out, jonah is ok but i was sad they changed voice actors for the bots. I just rewatched season 11 after watching the gauntlet and I like it a lot now though. (It might help that I smoked some bud this time to help get the giggles going) At the earths core was hilarious, the old guy is just perfect to rip on and every time they copied his ridiculous voice I just lost it. And the santa episode is one of my new favorites, "I'm just a wittle baby santa!"

I'm now working my way through a Canadian podcast called It's Just A Show. Definitely recommended. One of the hosts has also started an offshoot podcast called A Part Of Our Scare-Itage which gets into even more detail about Canucksploitation a la' Zombie Nightmare. (They've already done my ultimate dream movie for future MST3K seasons: The Uncanny. =^..^= )

I may never recover from the Sexy Reptilicus novelization/fanfic episode, though. The things I do in the name of cross-border goodwill, I tell ya'...

Hey, what's everyone's opinions on the new characters introduced to the satellite of Love that have gotten more attention lately? I really love the designs of Growler and Mr. Waverly. And honestly, I really love Growler's character a lot. I may be partial because of his puppetry work, but I just really love him!

The host segments in the gaunlent are eaither funny, smileinducing or a little borning (I’m looking at you the lords of the deep) but the day that time ened not only had solid riffs (Steak milk and ———Bikers) But great host segments (Steak grilling) but also had the best song as sung by Tom Servo’s in-laws evil twin twice removed Dr Harlond servo with the concepts song, I mean replace with Joel or mike and it fits, and any movie that has too many ideas and it fits, also Dr Edhart being less Shrill and more calm from hisJounry thoughout space is great, i hope i get to see him again next season.

Want to give big kudos to GaryinMotion for the work he's been doing on the upgraded MST3K's. I watched Werewolf last night, and he has done a superb job putting this together, so that not only do you get the full Riffs, perfectly synced, but it fleshes out the full movie in great quality sound and picture so you understand the plot a lot better. Many thanks, Gary! This is clearly a labor of love.

Season 12 Retrospective!

Report

As you all saw, my Season 12 wishes were posted a little while back. And, technically they came true! i'm going to go into a little retrospective here of why I thought this season was better than the last, in many terms! This will most definitely have spoilers! You have been warned!
1. The Puppetry- as a puppeteer, it makes sense to bring up the puppetry first, as it's one of my favorite parts of the show. The robots are very unconventional puppets to get a lot of movement out of, as they really are built more like ventriloquist dummies. Therefore, it's rough to get more complex scenes out of them. In the old show, they ended up building different puppets for different scenarios and they had a LOT more life in the old series than in Season 11. It doesn't make that much sense, however, because there are Henson puppeteers down there. But the whole reason it's like this is because the voice actor (while in the past it doubled as the puppeteer) now just push a button from offstage to move the mouth. They aren't thoroughly involved. It gets rid of some nuances, like Crow's mouth shaking when Trace would do it. However, in this season, the puppetry was really a whole lot more impressive in many ways. And somehow, they got that button thing to work better. There was less of a disconnect. They probably got more rehearsal time with this stuff, since it was only six episodes. Also, the costumes and the extra bodies were really well-maneuvered. Maybe the puppeteers and the comedians had a luncheon or something, to get to know each other better XD
But in reality, it was all better than before, and I loved how some of the puppeteers like Russ Wako got to keep their robot characters, and that they're permanent residents of the satellite of Love.
2. The use of Growler and Mr. Waverly
I was really happy that these characters returned! Growler actually was a personal favorite of mine after they debuted him in the season finale of Season 11. Their implementation was great! I really loved how Growler came about for things like invention exchanges and has some comedic things to say in host segments. Mr. Waverly, I was partial to, but I really loved his design. Both characters have very special designs. Growler is the closest to a traditional Henson puppet, which is why I enjoy his presence. However, both add some charm and feel like they fit right in on the satellite!
3. The Riffing
There was some pretty good, laugh out loud riffs in this season. Honestly, they really focused in with the 6 episodes and found some great jokes. But what I also loved was that Gypsy's riffs got funnier. I also loved that she brought Mr. Waverly and Growler along for the ride. They all seemed to have different joke-styles, which really helped. Also, this is the first time ever that they had a legitimate musical number in the theater! I welcome this, as it is a change that brings more variety to the riffing. This, as well, is why I love all of the different characters, and especially the prop comedy. When Growler brought in the tram car, I laughed pretty hard. The speed of the riffs, also, has found a happy medium for all fans, I think. Originally, I liked the rapid-fire riffs, but some fans didn't. But now, they've slightly slowed down, to play on the jokes with a bit of a steadier comedic timing, which really helped. Overall, I think the theater was more funny than its predecessor season.
4. The Host Segments
The Host Segments were hit or miss. However, I think these were still better than Season 11. I loved the Music Man parody in there. It's not an earworm, but I just loved the reference. They were just funnier. And still, as said before, the inclusion of Growler and Mr. Waverly was really helpful.
5. The Mads
They have, by far, improved on their work together. They're still awkward, but in a natural kind of way. Not in the "we're not used to being together" way, but more in their character archetypes. Kinga is more diabolical, Max is a bit more like Frank. The way they interact is just always really, really fun. And I like how they get their karma in the end, but I'll discuss that later...
6. THE cameo!
Having Dr. Larry make that cameo was amazing. I know I said more fun cameos in my original list, but this was ENOUGH for me. It was the best cameo. And the way it tied together the fun little plot point about Dr. Forrester and Frank was great. However, there's still the question of how they could have possibly copulated with another human being, as their characters were always frightened of girls...maybe next season...
8. 5 out of 6 of these movies were pretty great picks. Mac and Me was an amazing choice, plus it was about time they chose an Asylum film! These movies seemed to also fit the crew, better than Season 11's films. Good Choice
9. Crow/ Tom
With the puppetry issues somehow fixed, or maybe just less noticed by me, since I may have gotten used to it, the thing about Tom and Crow was their voices being too similar or them getting into character. I didn't see either of those problems still existing, here. I think the live tours were very helpful to these guys. I think it just got them more comfortable as the bots. Or, maybe I just got used to them, I don't know.

Those are my praises. I feel like the quality over quantity view was great in this season, and there was vast improvements. But I'd like to hear from everyone else. What do you think sirs?
