Mystery Science Theater 3000 Live! - Reno, NV.

It was fun, and funny!

The fellow and his sons seated behind us in the theater were wearing red t-shirts with Gizmonics patches and yellow Gizmonics hard hats, and they had Crow and Tom replicas!

Honestly, I have Joel/Mike and the bots in my living room every weekend via the small screen, but it was rather surreal in person. Joel walked on stage to much applause, carrying a big red (Gretsch?) guitar and started things off singing a slightly tweaked version of the theme song, employing the audience to do the "la la la's". True to original form I suppose, there was no high-tech razzle-dazzle; more on the order of community theater. The segments in between were the "circus" aspect; Tom putting his head the the mouth of a "lion" (a new Gypsy), and Crow on a unicycle.

Our "experiment" was a spunky bunch of noodles called "No Retreat, No Surrender" featuring a pasty, make-up faced, 25 y/o Jean-Claude Van Damme (Gosh Darn). Something like 'Karate Kid' I guess. Typically bad in a mid-80's passionate youth sort of way, and the riffing was great!

But... who is this new Gypsy, and who is Mega/Synthia?

I'm not squeamish in real life, but body horror stuff freaks me out for some reason. Anyone else avoid Squirm, Incredible Melting Man and Blood Waters of Dr Z simply because of that?

While watching the other day, I became curious for no particular reason as to how Mike/Joel and the Bots know when it's time to leave the theater in between segments? We all know what gets them in there...

I've noticed that 1996 MST3K movie isn't listed (or at least isn't easily accessible) with the other episodes. For those who are interested in seeing it or haven't heard of it before, it is available on tubitv.com for free (with commercials). Hope this is helpful for y'all!

Not to sound like a broken record, but TUBI has added a few more RTs.
