So why do the aliens take the long journey to earth to stop humans from using the laserblaster and repeatedly forget to pick the laserblaster up and take it with them? The movie's plot revolves around this unanswered question. Anyone care to speculate?

The chase scene in this movie (the one with the boat chase) is comparable to the pod-racing scene in Star Wars: Episode I. It's long, repetitive and adds nothing to the plot, even in terms of pointless action movies. Incidentally, Mike and Kevin have to suffer through the pod-racing scene on Rifftrax. Ugh!

I'm just throwing this question out there: Was there ever a movie featured on MST3K so full of unredeeming characters as this one? I'm not against movies that don't have redeeming characters in general, Ive just never really seen an MST3K movie where I didn't identify with at least one of the characters. This movie's view of humanity is almost as bleak as... well, mine.

It may not matter much, but does anyone else think it was weird that the survivalist housekeeper was praying for the police near the end, yet when the female lead enters the house he suggests she CALL the police? Very strange. Why didn't he just call the police? Oh well, not much sense in trying to make sense in this movie.

Why did the Mike years seem to think sketches based on boredom would read as "funny" and not "boring"?

After repeated viewings of "The Phantom Planet" episode, I finally caught the reference to the Beck song "Loser": "So why don't you kill me?" "I'm a loser, baby!" I love this show. Is it just me or did Bill Corbett reference the most then-contemporary pop songs out of the whole cast?
He referenced the Garbage song "Stupid Girl" in "The Mole People"
He referenced Nirvana's "Come As You Are" in "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank"
He referenced the Smashing Pumpkins anthem "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" in "The Projected Man"
Now the real question is: Was he really in tune with the younger generation or was he simply mocking them?
