The General to the colonel "turn you over my knee and spank you" WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!!!! I can see it was written by Heinlein:(( Anyone read The Puppet Masters?
Why? It was directed by Donald G. Jackson. And it's one of his more coherent and watchable films. With Rifftrax, it's a great introduction to a filmmaker who deserves to be placed in the same hall of fame as Ed Wood.
Never heard of Donald G. Jackson before? Well then, I guess you're not a fan of "zen filmmaking." (Which is understandable, because the creator of this film technique, Scott Shaw, is extremely litigious towards those who review his movies.)
I could easily go on and on and on about Zen filmmaking and DGJ, but here's the gist of it: You take a loose outline of a story, hire whoever is willing to stand in front of a camera (most famously Joe Estevez of Werewolf and Soultaker fame, and Robert Z'Dar of Future War and Soultaker), and start filming. Dialogue and even plot points are almost entirely improvised. The result is a huge mess.
I want to club the boy and girl in the short to death. What selfish, ignorant bastards. Use the money her parents are sacrificing to give her an education on "getting by" and getting a crappy job instead? Do they really think the parents are just going to give her all that money in a lump sum, no questions asked?
annotations ppl. During the second host section (scenic drive through midwest) crow and t servo say "It's a bug hunt man, a bug hunt!" and "it's game over man, game over man!" I believe both quotes are from the book/movie starship troopers. The first quote is definitely a reference to that. Not sure about the second
Ok, in the third host segment (the one with the explorers), Joel makes a little hand gesture to Crow at one point (about 1:17:00) . Does anybody have any idea what it's supposed to mean? Tiny little detail, but I'm curious.
I am confused. This movie was made in 1958. Napalm was developed in 1942. But the fire-bombs that the plane dropped were a bit more structurally destructive than Napalm (all the dust coming down on impact). And... napalm has a wonderful splash effect when it hits. The bombing area in this film would only need one good hit considering how it spreads itself out on impact. But, hey, what did these guys know about air-strikes.
I want Guillermo del Toro to remake this with a few people that can act and a new script. Obviously, better special effects. You gotta hand it to Corman (okay he didn't direct but still), a movie with only one set could be a lot worse - this one isn't so terrible by MST3K standards. I think it's doomed not by the story but the script. A wounded animal that big isn't good.

It's like ... he's thinking of the rest of his line.
