Alright, pretty much OT on this one, but it's all about movies so it's not THAT far off... The film club that I am a part of has just released the titles of our next weekend film festival in Oct. and I've gotta say I'm so fucking excited!!! 13 movies, three days. It's gonna be insane. Check out the trailer:

I'm really looking forward to just about all of them, but most especially Terry Gilliam's latest (and supposed to be best since 'Brazil' - my all time favorite) The Zero Theorem and an independent sci-fi-ish flick from Australia called Young Ones (not to be mistaken with the classic and beloved British comedy show).

So, with that in mind, what movies have you good people been watching lately? Our latest in the club was Jonathan Glazer's newest and strangest 'Under the Skin.' Very strange, very beautiful... and as everyone has commented, very Kubrickian. It's impossible not to make comparisons with 2001: A Space Odyssey, and that is not necessarily a bad thing considering just about every great sci-fi film made ever since somehow owes something to it, Last night I watched a compelling documentary about the greatest, grandest, most epic, ambitious, and influential film never made, 'Jodorowsky's Dune'. Jodorowsky, who was responsible for the first 'cult' film, the very first midnight movie 'El Topo', gathered the greatest artists and performers to create his vision of Frank Herbert's epic novel Dune... people including special effects master Dan O'Bannon (BEFORE Alien) artists H.R.Geiger (again, before Alien) and Chris Foss (you may not know his name, but if you're a sci-fi fan you've seen his work) musicians Pink Floyd and would have starred none less than Salvador Dali, Mick Jagger, Orson Welles and David Carradine. I mean, holy shit... If you're at all interested in any of the above, do yourself a favor and look this one up. It's fantastic.
