It honestly surprised me how they lumped The Far Side in with total dreck like The Lockhorns. The Far Side consistently managed to balance funny and interesting, and at its worst, it was at least somewhat entertaining and creative. All of the other comics that were lampooned in this invention exchange are uniformly terrible, though.

Real talk: Beth (Kevin Casey) is super adorable, despite (or perhaps because of) her impressive hair-helmet.

Does it make me weird that I think clowns are pretty cool and funny? I guess I understand why some people are scared of them, but I don't get why they have this widespread reputation for being terrifying (except among most people who saw It with Tim Curry as kids, I suppose)

Joel Robinson is an epic dickweed in Soultaker. Discuss.

So I'm about to reveal myself as the overly analytical shameless dweeb that I am, but I gotta throw this out there. Does anyone else get cheesed off watching Soultaker? Specifically, that whole part where Joel merrily leaves M&tB stranded in space and does so with enough self-righteous bravado to put every televangelist on earth to shame? Okay, so obs M&tB can't actually be rescued since that'd kinda kill the show and stuff, but there were a ton of in-show ways they could have gotten Joel off the ship, kept M&tB aboard, and not had Joel acting like the biggest jackass this side of Castle Forrester. (Hell, at least the peeps on Team Forrester openly admit to being evil\sadistic\batshit insane when *they* joyfully strand people in space!)

Joel's escape in Mitchell was one thing - Gypsy surprise!booted him out to save his arse after he point-blank told her he'd never willingly leave. Okay, fine. But then he shows back up in Soultaker to fix the ship and...what, campaign for a spot on Jerry Springer's "Deadbeat Dads and the Bots Who Love Them" holiday special? He’s so content to gleefully ditch his creations after they get all excited to see him again, it’s flippin' twisted! Major league douche move there, buddy, f'realz.

Am I the only one totally bothered by this? I get that the skit is\was supposed to be lulzy, and maybe on the surface it is, but the undercurrent just feels icky and wrong, like someone put this warped dark twist on J&TB’s usual whimsy and warmth, and not in the “hilariously dark riff that makes you laugh and cringe at the same time” sort of way. It's more like a Mirror Universe sort of way, except this wasn’t a mirror universe! (OR WAS IT?!) IDK. This ep totally puts me off the character of Joel Robinson, or at least makes me wrinkle my nose a little, and that ain't right! Someone PLEASE explain that I'm missing the point. Flame me! Kick my ass! Tell me I'm wrong and tell me exactly why! I hate disliking a character I love, and I want...nay, need to make sense of this madness! (Also, preemptive bronx cheer to anyone who pulls the "Repeat to yourself it's just a show" line. That's only applicable to science facts, not speculative character analysis. So there.)

Hey, they quoted a Talking Heads song that wasn't "Once in a Lifetime" for once! :) (at 14:25 or thereabouts)

Hey I have a problem

There's an old MST3k riff --- I can't recall whether it's in a short or a full-length film --- that's an extended pun on . . . archipelago? Atoll? Peninsula? Isthmus? I can't recall, but it has to do with a landmass by a body of water. It had me in stitches. Help?

Favorite movie titles?
(Not favorite movies, just titles.) Bonus points for movies NOT featured on MST3K or Rifftrax. The weirder the better.

Mike Patton's "Deep Down"

For those who aren't familiar, Mike Patton is the singer for Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, and Fantomas. He's one of my favorite vocalists, and he also has like a billion side projects that I've never listened to. Recently I was trying to change that and listen to more things by him, and I found a solo album called "Mondo Cane" which features a wonderful version of "Deep Down" (the theme song from "Diabolik"). Check it out, won't you?
